how fast can I raise my specific gravity. My reef is at 1.021. I raised it from 1.019 yesterday. Is that two fast.

Yea kinda. Most fish can handle it tough. Question is whats in the tank. Generally i wouldnt do more than 0.001 per day.

To do it in the right speed its best to just top off your tank with saltwater at the salinity you want to raise the tank to.

I have a Yellow Tang, 6-line wrasse and coral beauty. A bunch of softies and an LTA. All my pars are great with the exception of a .25 phosphate reading and the low specific gravity. Could these two issues cause my fish to get sick. As of Friday my Coral Beauties eyes are swollen and one of my tang's eye are cloudy. Both are eating real good. Nothing seems wrong with the wrasse.

Fish are absolutely fine at 1.019-21. I agree that topping off with saltwater is probably the best/easiest way to raise salinity.

Something else is going on with the fishes' eyes.

Your fish would not be sick or show any signs of sickness from having salinity of 1.021 in fact, that is not low at all for fish. Most stores keep their fish tanks at 1.019 to save on salt and when people run hypo salinity they keep their water at 1.009 for months. Fish actually have an easier time breathing when salinity is lower, they are able to extract oxygen from the water far easier. We keep tanks at around 1.025 - 1.026 for corals.

Your fish are mostly likely sick from adding a sick fish into the system without proper QT.

sounds like they have pop-eye. sometimes they can get it from injury but for another fish to have cloudy eye it looks like they have parasite
