Raising salt levels without a water change?

I usually put a cup of dry salt in my sump right next to some flow and let it dissolve on its own.

So we just did a water change yesterday, our sodium was a low prior. So we mixed our water to 1.027 to try to offset and bring up the salinity. It’s now only 1.023. I didn’t want to do a whole water change again, but that’s what my husband thinks in the only way to raise. What suggestions do you all have?

Increase it over time as mentioned by others .
Auto top off works great for slowly increasing salinity with salt water instead of freshwater .
But not to contaminate the ato container it’s easier for me to mix water at 1.027 and add after a water change .

increasing too fast will only irritate corals and fish . But ideally you want 1.025-1.026 for your reef with corals .

If you are able to keep a container of mixed saltwater handy . Only water evaporates leaving the salt behind.
Add mixed saltwater until you get your target salinity .

once you get it to your desired salinity be sure to keep your measuring instruments calibrated often

I think I might have missed the specifics for your system such as size , filtration , sump and skimmer or no

We have reef tank, so my understanding is that’s too low? I would never just dump salt in, I’d premix first and slowly add.

Its fine. I wouldn't go lower, but its not an emergency or anything to worry about

What is the concern with raising it too fast?? What could happen? What is considered too fast?

Quick changes in salinity (ecspecially when raising salinity) is hard on fish and can potentially be deadly if done too quickly. I’ve always heard not to change more than 1ppt a day, but I don’t know from experience what is safe. Ultimately the slower the better.
