Hi everyone,

I am in the process of cycling my second build, a 125 gallon tank. I have the sand, aquascape, and sump material installed and running and I am seeding my tank with ammonia and aquavitro seed to move the process along. This is my first time using a fishless cycling method and I ran out of aquavitro seed 4 days into the dosing schedule.

Does anyone know if switching to Dr. Tim's One and Only would cause any issues? Someone gave me a brand new bottle and I don't want it to go to waste.

I would love to hear some of your cycling ideas that have created a healthy tank. I've only had nano tanks to this point so I'm trying to be very patient while working on this new build. I know it typically takes several weeks but there is so much information out there about best practices that I was hoping to narrow it down.

You’ve already added enough for sure, no need to buy more bottled bacteria

simply take 2 medium sized pinches of flake food and grind it up into powder and add it into the tank

wait fifteen days from now, you’re cycled. No testing needed, this is a testless cycle trick factoring in what you’ve already added. That is enough bacteria to get started and fifteen more days on fish food would cycle you for base ammonia control even without this boosted start.

Add in the Dr Tims if you want, it doesn’t harm, it won’t matter either way. After adding it you can reduce to ten days total wait, that brand is already charted for work in under ten days.

If your 1st tank is still running, the best thing you could do is pull a couple rocks from the existing tank and put it in the new tank. Sufficient live rock = skip cycle.
