Ranco ETC Single Stage Temperature Control

Does anyone know what happens to the Ranco ETC during a power outage or unplugged. I.e. does it close (allowing no flow) the valve or open (allowing flow) the valve. It is for making wine.

Depends how you have it wired up.
I think you can wire it for heating or cooling so open on temp rise or close on temp rise.

But without power, nothing will be flowing into the device to matter....
What are you wiring it up to?

The valve will be either normally closed or normally open. This describes the default, power off state. When the ranco apples power, the valve is energized to the opposite state.
Most aquarium valves are normally closed, so if power fails things are closed.

Good to know that no power means no flow. :( Guess its got to be one way or the other!

I was hoping without power it would be open and flowing. I suspected it closed and was why the tank temperature rose when unit was unplugged for vacuuming and not plugged back in till the next day.

I have it programmed for cooling, if anyone knows how to change the wiring so that it is open and flowing without power please post!

Its all dependent on the valve you use.
It sounds like you want a NO (normally open) valve.
If you lose power, the valve will stay open.
If you want the valve to close on temp rise, you will wire it as such.
If you want the valve to close on temp fall, wire it that way.

The normal power off state of the valve will be normally closed.
