Hello all,

I am interested in purchasing a Ranco temperature controller for my Waterbox 20 build. It seems this temperature controller is one of the few places there seems to be some dependable agreement review wise!

I have a few questions.

1. I am aware that aqualogic sells the rebranded ranco on marine depot for about 180$. I saw on another thread that I can purchase the prewired ranco in which the sensor comes with the Heat Shrink fitted through ETC supply. There are a variety of options on ETC of these temp controllers is this the product I am looking for:

https://rancoetc.com/ranco-etc-211000-000-2-stage-prewired-temperature-controller

2. What are your thoughts on this controller?

3. What do you guys suggest in terms of length for the heat shrink? Small tank and I plan on keeping the controller nearby.

4. I am trying to future proof myself. I understand the two stage is wired for heating and cooling. I do not plan on running a chiller or additional heater to begin with however this is something I may do in the future. I assume it is okay to just one run device off the two stage ?

5. Are these controllers compatible with any aquarium heater? I am leaning toward these BRS titanium heaters. Thoughts here?

Thanks for your help!!

Great controllers I have two at home. The chiller we have at work on the spotwelders uses one. I have had no issues with it at all.

Whatever length works for your set up

Will work fine with just a heater hooked up.

Thanks for your help!! Quick follow up: for the heatshrink length I would only need that on the chord I plan on being submerged in the tank correct?

1. I bought mine from ETC
2. Have two at home - they have worked flawlessly
3. I thing the protective tubing is a standard length - around 18" if memory serves.
4. I don't have the dual, but I would assume you can run just the heat side.
5. Yes, as long as you don't exceed the maximum load.

I think there is a drop down menu to choose the length of wrap you want, I was slightly confused with this option, too, I guess it’s asking how much of the probe wiill be in the water.
