So I have three biota yellow tangs. They would squabble from time to time.. but never that bad. This morning I had to leave early and asked my partner to feed the tank. Well they ended up forgetting and I came home to one of my tangs with its top fin ripped up. I immediately fed them.. everyone ate but they were still extremely ticked off at each other. I fed a few more times that night and they never let up. Now they are all asleep and it's peaceful.. but I'm worried for tomorrow. Tank is 300 gallons and has 3 yellow tangs, regal angelfish (super small), lyretail anthias, carpenter wrasse, and a royal gramma.

I've read the tang aggression thread, but I just find it so weird they went from coexisting to almost killing eachother because of one missed feeding. I have now added an auto feeder. Any tips to help calm this down tomorrow? Mirror on the tank? I can't get them to eat nori on the clip yet..

Thank you.

Honestly, we don’t know how tangs behave in the wild (especially their hierarchal system). We also don’t know how to sex them so random bursts of aggression could be anything. I personally find tangs to be a ticking timebomb of aggression and they can turn against and kill eachother any moment.

Makes sense. Should I try the mirror? Was just so weird how this fish was ticked off literally all day. I would try removing either of them but I don't think I have a chance in a tank this size.

Woke up today to still there being lots of aggression. I added the mirror and the little ******* is going crazy on it. Hopefully buys me some time or just tires him out. I want to add a blonde naso to the tank, I've read a large less aggressive tang can be a good idea.

Far from expert on here but my tangs do alittle battling when one seems to grow a tiny bit bigger, Sailfin, Hippo and Yellow (who is the most timid) they’ve been together since itty bitty and like said on here, add a little treats, seaweed extreme changes focus. Those Biota raised are so tiny, I’m sure one is growing quicker.best of luck
