generally hermit crabs can kill eachother if they can't find a bigger shell, furthermore they fooled me swell with shedding so I thought I had lost one then a few days later I saw all 3 of mine at once yet I had buried the shed thinking it was one of them.

And he is the only big hermit crab.

Any chance it abandoned its shell because it got too small but couldn’t find a suitable replacement shell? Doesn’t look like anything tried to eat it. Maybe it was homeless and stressed? I dunno

Could always add shells. I buy mine at the dollar store in jars meant as bathroom decor. Soak. Scrub. Rinse. Toss em in :) so much cheaper than LFS

Also, we have to remember that, while it’s important to try and figure out a cause of death, everything does eventually die even in the best of conditions. Perhaps this guy had a heart problem. Or was just old. Or choked on something. The possibilities are endless. Losing a pet is always upsetting to me but it’s a part of both life and pet ownership. I wouldn’t worry about anything because it’s an isolated incident. Keep an eye on the tank and parameters is you’re concerned but don’t stress.

I hear. I have this guy for over a year

Ive had my large one for 2 yrs. he was my 1st livestock purchase in SW. I know you get attached. And I’ve got a soft spot for inverts. Mostly hermits. But snails too. I just don’t think they get the admiration and credit that they deserve. They’re amazing little creatures. Sorry for your loss

Just found my 2 inch porcupine puffer stuck to my mp40. He was all cut up so i put him out of his misery and killed it. My question is if a fish would get stuck to the wavemaker if its 100% healthy?
Fish went through 2 weeks of copper and 2 weeks sterile tank for observation and was eating and swimming fine up untill this morning

I give all my fish a FW dip before transfer to display tank and nothing came off so i did not treat for flukes.
I am so bummed out. I did everything right and i am still getting fish deaths
