Random Question: Can a heat touch things... like filter floss?

I was worried it would light on fire... I mean I know its under water so highly unlikely... but still. Or maybe it would melt

Your heater definitely shouldn’t be melting things inside the tank . But you could invest in a heater guard for ease of mind

Thanks I'm sure I'm just overreacting. In my big tank I have a sump and everything is nicely spread out. In an AIO everything is so crammed together it makes me nervous.

Yeah the melting point of Polyester stuffing is extremely high. I would expect the Acrylic baffles in the AIO to fail long before it does.

I'm for sure necroing this but, I just wanted to say I was using the same question tonight!

I got a 200watt titanium heating element and controller and it's like 10.75 inches and is meant to be fully or nearly fully submerged so I struggled to find a chamber in my all in one that it would fit in.

The only one that would quality is ones of my outer most chambers that currently are my primary mechanical filter areas. (ie filter floss, carbon and chemi-pure + a sponge)

Mentally I did worry about melting things of heat induced chemical reactions. (Like you can see when heaters are on in the water because of the "heat waves" they give off which seem spooky too have them interacting with them.

Anyway I appreciate your original question and everyone's feedback and answers here.

Out of curiosity just how important is that minimum water level line? (Nervous laughter)

For this tank this is the deepest spot I've got in the AIO without putting the MASSIVE element in the display.

There's not really a lot of other options available that I could get that include a external controller in my price range.
