If you were given this test kit and didn't have any test kits yet as I am barely starting would you use it or return it for something else and get different test kits?

If you have a choice and able to return it I would.

in the master kit I believe it’s
Ph , ammonia , nitrite , nitrate
Can’t remember if alkalinity was part of that kit or not ,

I would recommend
Hanna checker for phosphates
Salifert for everything else

cool thanks for the reply.

I'm going to counter the other opinions. This will probably get shot down but, if you are new to reefkeeping then there may be a reason to keep it.

If you are going to use the 'add bottle bacteria and wait' method, and aren't interested in testing ammonia and nitrite, then it might be worth exchanging it for something else.

However, if you want to test ammonia, nitrite and nitrate during the cycle then the API kit is probably the cheapest way to do it. It might not be the most accurate but it's good enough for cycling. The Ph test is ok to get a rough idea of your reading.

Salifert nitrate, nitrite and ammonia will cost you almost $45, and you probably won't test ammonia and nitrite much (if at all) after the cycle is complete.
