I’m at my wits end with my tank chemistry. Here goes.
34 gallon
Tank 8 months old
Reefbreeder photon v2
Tunze 9004 skimmer
Plenty flow
Rodi 0 tds. Zero phos and nitrates In rodi water
Stock:
Two clowns
Midas blenny
Diamond watchman gob
Emerald crab
Cleaner shrimp
Few snails
Medium to Heavily stocked as far as coral goes
My problem.
My nitrates.
Back story time
For first 5 months had zero readings in phosphate and nitrate.
Worried I was starving my corals so started dosing acropower. Nitrates and phosphates bumped up quickly to 25 and .5 very quickly after this.
Tons of water changes. Got them in half that above value to only have them creep up again.
Started dosing NoPox which has been on for about 2-3 months
Not doing anything what so ever for my nitrate or phosphates. My current dose of nopox is 4 ml a day for my 34 gallon. I’m kinda worried about increasing it anymore.
Decided to add 3 tablespoons of phosban. My phosphate can down to .1 for the past week.
However since phosphate has gone down my nitrates are rapidly rising despite water changes. Current they are 50.
Since dropping the phosphates my alkalinity is rapidly dropping daily as well. I’ve had to increase my dosing pump up 3 mls this week and it’s still stopping .3 every few days. I’m assuming my corals are growing and were inhibited by the high phosphates.
So my question is do you think that since my phosphates are low now that my nitrates can’t be eliminated?
I’m thinking of giving up on the nopox but I just don’t see how it’s working as everyone else says it’s works so well.
Any I’ll affects I should be aware of if I stop cold turkey?
Oh and the weirdest part about all these elevated nutrients. I never have algae whatsoever. Corals look pretty good.
So sorry for the long post. I just want these nitrates down.
