So Im just starting to dose my 100 gallon system.
It is almost totally softy dominated, except for a few(think 2 or 3) Lps.
I am using the reef calculator.
My alk is 3meq/l with a desired measurment of 4
Calc is at 340ppm with a desired measurment of 400.
The calculator says i need to dose 13.5 fl oz of alk supplement
And 41.4 fl oz of calc supplement!
Does that sound right?
Over what time period would you suggest dossing it?
I do not have a doser at this point so i will be manually dosing it.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Do look at the reccomend balanced calcium and alk as suggested by the calculator. And then renter the values based on that balance.

I targeted the alk, and used the reccomended cal value. It came out evenly using ESV and TM.

Ok so i changed it to the recomended 440ppm of calc now it says to dose 69 fl oz?
Isnt that a lot?

FWIW, 3 meq/L is fine. So is 4 meq/L. I recommend 2.5-4 meq/l, and about 380-500 ppm calcium.

Spread the calcium boost over several days.
Thank you Randy. If im correct, your view on this is that it would be best to emulate the oceans parameters?
What benefits do others see in boosting alk and calc?

Higher alkalinity can lead to faster growth of hard corals. But sometimes colors can be better with lower nutrients, which can make high alkalinity undesirable due to potential burnt SPS tips. It does not appear to be an issue for soft corals or LPS.

Not for maintenance, but if you want a big calcium boost, they will be. :)
Thank you. I had done the research and calculations some time ago on the Maine doses and was fairly certain of it.
I may be switching to the diy after this batch of TM.

Thank you for your help randy!
