Rare Corals/Corals Absent from the Hobby

Iam trying to collect more pectinia. We can swap

I now have 3 different types. The most common being alcicornis, now the space invader, whatever species that is. And an unknown. Fun stuff!

Saw two nice orange ones for sale 10 years ago but it was a week before I had a 14 hour move. Said I would buy them after the move when the tank is setup. Never saw them again for sale

Coming from an exporter, what is brought in is dictated by the market. We would love to collect and send cool new or strange things, but often times they are not the radiating corals. With odd ball stuff, people are too particular, let alone the price they would be will to pay for a potentially brown thing. That being said. Here is a great example of something very uncommon, but cool.

if i may ask, how does exporting work. like going out into the ocean and diving to see cool new pieces to bring in?

I got one in my tank. . . the only one I have ever seen haha

It used to be much larger but it got a huge coral boring worm infestation and I had to frag off what I could save.

Our LFS has massive pieces of the stuff and can’t sell it as it doesn’t “glow”. They even moved it to a low light tank and it’s still thriving, though the color is a bit off now.

Can you pay collectors directly to get specific species of fish/coral?

Theres some shrimp I've been eying but no one has them

It would be like funding an expedition on top of all the export and import costs. Those shrimp can end up costing 20k.

Are there any corals either seldom found or nonexistent in the hobby that you wish you could keep or were more common in the hobby?

I'm keeping one rule on this thread that the corals have to realistically be able to enter into the hobby, so no Caribbean, Western Indian Ocean, temperate, or deepwater corals

I'll start:
Currently, virtually all Leptoseris in the hobby are of one species: L. mycetoseroides. I would love to see other Leptoseris species be imported--maybe something like L. papyracea/gardineri, or L. explanata/scabra.
