I bought a nice little pack of zoa's over a week ago. Everything opened within a day or so except the Rastas. They started to open barley...could only see the tips of the skirts. I thought I'd try moving them. They've been completely closed since....and look like they are shedding tissue a bit. Just wondering what you would suggest. I'm thinking of dipping them, to see if it helps, but also wondering if I should just leave them alone, since I've been told they are kind of finicky. This amount of time closed though seems a little more than them being finicky. Any thoughts? They are in the bottom third of the tank a 90 with two 250 14 k radiums and two t5s they are in a lower flow area.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

i would dip, mine are mid level with med flow they grow like crazy i frag em every two months so they dont grow out of control

What would you dip them in, I have a few new frags that are doing the same as OP's

Iodine for me...... I've kept these under halides, led, and T5. They do best with medium light and low flow IMO

Well I dipped a little bit ago, and the tissue looked healthier already. I am cautiously optimistic. I moved the frag back to where it was previously when I could see a bit of the skirt. Fingers crossed.

omg please not a freshwater.! coral RX or iodine dip. i hate freshwater dips now. lost over 20different colonys.. :( about a month ago. sooooo sad :/

rastas will grow almost anywhere in my tank. i have the best growth mid way in tank with med sorta high flow.

and then i have one in high light low flow with amazing growth

LED's are the type of lighting im using btw.

Yep, did freshwater with a few drops of lugol's. I've dipped this way many times with a lot of success.

When you do an iodine dip, what ratio would you use, iodine to water? It's not straight iodine is it?

I normally do iodine dip with tank water, not with fresh water.

Iodine dip is a lugol dip.

Is Lugol's straight iodine, or is it iodine mixed with something else...for some reason I always thought it was a mixture.

I had a polyp of Rastas do that. I bought 1 polyp from my lfs, brought it home dipped it and put it in my tank. It took 2 weeks before it started to open up, once it did it had a brown color. A week later it is looking a little better with more green and the orange is starting to show up. I dipped it in revive after the first week and them just left it alone to donuts thing. Seems like it worked

I think Rastas are slow to acclimate as far as zoas go. I got some this weekend zoas usually open in my tank within minutes. These took a day to open and I don't think polyp extension is still at its best. The guy I got them from says they grow like weeds once they're happy though

Try adding some vitamin c I add it to my water it's good for them
