I recently got a frag of rastas...this is the second frag. The first didn't make it and more it's looking the same way for the second and I'm not sure why....I've been told they like little light and little too moderate flow...the frag had 4 and now down to one that doesn't open like it did when I first put it in...it's been moved from the mid to the floor of the tank trying to provide them with what they want...
55 gallon, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and about 80 nitrates...working on bringing them down...I have a 4 t12 vho light...two actinic, one blue and one white.

I was told there are more than 1 type of rastas and some grow fast and some are slow growth. I have only had the slow grow type. They tend to be very sensitive to algae growing near them and they close up and if that happens for a while they melt. For me they seem to like areas with higher flow than the other zoas and they love the light

Hmm...I have hair algae in my tank that's kind of everywhere....they were by some....any idea or options for getting rid of it?

How big is the tank? The yellow tangs eat gha...but they don't do well in tanks less than 55 gallon size .. turbo snails eat gha also.... there are more than 1 way but nutrients export is important in any tanks

I dealt with a type of hair algae that caused all of my zoas to stay closed. I thought is was Dino's but it went away after a few weeks

Check your phosphate level if it's to high it will stunt growth and I even had some zoas die because algae started to grow on them. If it is to high look into runing gfo or carbon. Good luck ang hope this helps

So here's an update....I've had two rastas colonies in my tank, both perished, I also had some cool green zoas in and they just got done being destroyed...and I found my problem. I saw on the glass about a week ago....a stupid zoa eating nudibranch...explains everything and I want to get rid of it for good....if anyone has ideas how to get rid of this very annoying and frustrating pest please let me know....I want him GONE.

80 ppm nitrates????.... i would think all corals are going to suffer from this, including a lot of algae problems furthur pushing your corals to suffer. i wouldnt be scratching my head until that is resolved and your still having issues

Nitrates I don't think are the problem.....I've had them over 160 and everything was growing...and my green zoas had chunks bitten out of the side....I could've where he was munching on them

I have my rastas at the top of the tank 14" below a 250w radium
