Okay guys. It’s been a battle and a half but I finally got my final shipment of all the meds I ordered. I couldn’t get my hands on the name brands but I got the active ingredients (ie instead of PraziPro, I was able to get praziquantel and so on).

Do you think I have all my basis covered or am I missing something? I tried everything and I can’t get Formalin :(

Also, anyone have experience w these active ingredients instead of name brands? Any tips would be much appreciated.

The Big Guns
  • Methylene Blue
  • NFG
  • General Trio (combo of active ingredients in Kanaplex, Metroplex, and Furan-2) which is an all in one trifecta. I was not able to get these individually.
  • Cupramine
  • Chloroquine Phosphate
  • General parasite cure which has active ingredients found in API General Cure
  • Praziquantel
  • Focus
  • Prime
The little guns
  • Melafix
  • Pimafix
  • Paraguard
Plus vitamins, garlic guard, and vitamin enriched foods.

No lol. But in the last 2 years, I’ve had
- ich wipe out my tank
- velvet kill off 5 fish in qt
- flukes kill 3 fish in qt
- one fish with a bacterial infection and internal parasites. Dead.

I’ve tried my best w the 3 I had (cupramine, metafix and Pimafix) but have had limited success. I’ve got 3 fish left :( and, if I’m getting any more, I want to be prepared for anything. Make sense?

I have just been through Uronema and Velvet, and I was about to start a thread asking for what meds I should have on hand! I am glad you made this, I will be modeling my stuff after you and watching any comments. Great post!

Little old me? Oh my. I’m blushing. Glad it can be of help. I modeled it after hotrocks’s qt protocol. I don’t know how to post a link (How do you guys do it????). Perhaps we can summon Mr. @HotRocks himself ....

Just hold down on the link then click copy, come back here hold down then paste
 
Looks like you have it all! The only thing I would add is a product containing Acriflavine (ruby reef rally, API fungus cure are sources here)

It is actually a pretty good alternative for formalin as an anti-parasitic, and also has antiseptic properties. I have ruby reef rally and find myself using it fairly often...

Hmmm. Could methylene Blue be used as a substitute? Where I’m from (Ontario. Canada) highly restricts the sale of these things and I had to get it all from 3 sources. 2 online. 1 was a $125 order from the states which added up to $220 including shipping and the exchange rate. It arrived today with the pleasant surprise of an additional $68 fee from customs. Grrrrr

+1 ^^^ and Sulfaplex or Triple Sulfa. These last two work really well on infections of the head area.

Oh man that’s awful...Methylene blue would have the antiseptic side covered... but not so much the antiparasitic. I was thinking it might be easier for you to find than formalin :/

I think the biggest challenge you’ll have would be if you come across brook... since metronidazole alone doesn’t always cut it. But, if you do a freshwater dip, followed by a bath in MB, and transfer to clean QT with your metro source you’ll have a pretty good chance. Same with uronema.

I was worried about Brook. Uro not so much because I though copper and cp were options? I want to get a couple of clowns but am reluctant because of Brook. Would feel much better if I had ruby reef rally on hand. Read some good things about it
