Look at your reef tank or, if you have more than one, the one that is in the best shape. Rate it from 1 to 10, with 10 being perfect. What is your rating and what needs to happen to get it to a 10? Time? Better equipment? Kill off some algae? Get some corals in a new tank? Grow out some frags?

I've just started my Sump overhaul and will be adding a new 110g sump within the next 2 wks. Not until then can I rate my tank anything over a 2 since I've been staring at an IDLE brand new BK Mini 200(too big for current sump) for the last 5 months because it wouldnt fit

i am at a 3 but with time and more money than i want to talk about it will be perfect

6.5/10

  • downsize
  • grow-in
  • lose big fish
  • add little fish (lots and lots of them)
  • test water more than once every 2 months
  • clean glass more than once every 4 or 5 weeks
  • add more flow
  • clean up frags on sand bed
  • the list goes on and on.....

i guess i would rate mine at ..... 5.5 / 6 ???

--less frags on sandbed would be better, lots of zoa frag on sand right now
--have a nice selection of corals but are frags right now will be better once grown in
--only have 5 small fish, need to add some more fish for some diversity and interest
--add more corals to the left side of the tank (the rockwork was finished on that side recently so i dont have many corals on that side
--catch and get rid of the small hitchiker crab in my tank (that came in my new liverock) errrgggghhhh!

I need to learn how to keep SPS. This picture is a few months old. Frag racks are no longer there, frags are now in their own frag tank in my upstairs office. I've also added a 3rd tunze 6101 to the system.

This tank is still very young, started in May 08.

I'd rate mine a 6 out of 10. I need to decide what kinds of corals I want to keep instead of everything that catches my eye. My sandbed is too cluttered, plus I think I really just need time to grow everything out into huge colonies.

In all honesty, I think few people would rate their tank higher than an 8 or 9 due to the fact that as hobbyists we always feel like we could do something better be it equipment, corals, supplements, etc.

7 - 7.5 it has been a learning experience, and my tank isn't all that big (42) but I have it pretty much where I want it. Been vodka dosing for a few months now and nitrates are under 5 ppm and between that and carbon, the water looks great. Been buying some neat zoas, and my RBTA is large, healthy, and loves to show off. My clowns are laying eggs (well the female) and all is good. If someone were to look, it may appear a bit crowded, but that's ok.

I'll rate my 65 a 7. It's almost a year old and is settling in well. I need to cure my acan problem and eliminate a minor problem with algae growing on the sand. Then it's a matter of getting the many small pieces glued to rock and growing out. The goal is a mature tank with most of the rock covered with corals.

I rate mine 6.. and that is not a joke.. I need to learn more about this hobby...

...grow out
...learn more
...focus on coloration
...read read read learn learn learn ohhhh I already said that ;)

The tank setup is a corvette with some volkswagens inside

120 display. 1 out of 10. I have to tear down and move everything by June 1 :(

I let this tank (with some new rock) cycle for 6 months with no light, then have been lighting it for 3 months, weathered a algae outbreak and so right now nothing looks like it should. There are tons of frags everywhere and it was just starting to look like a real tank two weeks ago.

I think I am going to do things a little differently though when it goes back up ie SSB, lower sump-tank flow and maybe open up the rockwork a little more. I do like setting tanks up so at least I have that going for me :)
