I'm thinking of adding a raw shrimp to my sump to increase nitrate in my tank. I can always dose or increase feeding but if this method works I would much prefer it. I have enough bio filtration in my tank that I'm not worry about ammonia. Have anyone tried this or see anything that might go wrong with this method?

Raw shrimp is made up of more than nitrate, so you're likely to increase other elements (some of which may be problematical). It's also a very unstable way of adding a trace element into your tank; you could easily raise the levels too fast or too high and get algae outbreaks.

If your goal is to raise nitrates in your tank, I would suggest getting an additive that you can control the volume of better - potassium nitrate being the most common option.
