hi I have had a RBTA for about 3 years. A little over a month ago it retracted and split and since then it stays retracted and has gone down deeper into the crevice of the rock.

Alk. 7.8
Ca 380
Mag 1300
Ph 8.0
Temp 79

Above are parameters of tank. Is there anything else I should test?
Was thinking of pulling rock out and breaking it up to get them out to an acclimation box. Let me know your opinion Thank you.

Personally, I just let my anemone do it's thing. I might try to feed it a bit of Mysis if you don't already do that. It is probably recovering from the split.
I would probably run a complete set of tests just to make sure something isn't out of whack. (Amonia, Nitrate, Phospate the usual suspects)

Yes I do feed Mysis shrimp. I did get for nitrate and using the api test it was at 0 ppm. I did that test 3 times same result. Might have to get another test kit. I did forget to mention I have another RBTA that is closed up all the way.

Did anything change prior to the split?

Nothing major. Added a starry blenny and some more coral is all. A couple months ago I added a kessil 360w that runs with the AI prime. I have since turned off the kessil thinking it was too much light. Also turned off the power head and nothing. I put the power head back on because of cyano.

Do you have pics? You said you added another light a couple months ago and he split about a month ago. Then you shut off the kessil after the split. How did it look before the split?

I added the kessil back in novemeber.
Picture below is from August. Don’t have any recent pictures. But can upload tonight.

It's possible the new light was just too much for it, that is what I see most of the time when a BTA holes up, and maybe it just stayed there.
That's my best guess.

+1 and not unheard of. Sometimes when some of the BTA's I have spit they go into hiding. into LR crevices only to emerge when they like and they are healthy.

2 weeks since the extra light was on seems like they would have come back out by now...id give him some more time but if they start taking a turn for the worse you may have to intervene.
