I'm looking into a nem for my two clowns and I'm strongly considering a rbta. What size should I get? this will also be my first nem. is there any other nem that is better for someone not experienced with keeping them? Or is the rbta my best bet?

RBTAs can grow very quickly. I've had mine for about 2 months, and it's doubled in size. So even if you get a small one, it will grow quickly, and can overtake a tank quicker than you may think. Also, the nem should be at least twice the size of the largest clown to make sure the clowns don't "overlove" the nem.

Make sure all powerheads inside the tank are either removed, or covered with some form of plastic to make sure it doesn't suck the nem into it. You also need to be aware that they will move around to find a spot that they really like, so be ready to move any corals that may be too close to it.

Also make sure your tank has been running stable for many months. They can be very finicky to bad water.

And last but not least, if your clownfish don't immediately take to the nem, don't fret. It can take awhile, and you could always try the photo method.

Otherwise if you're willing to try it and know the risks involved, the symbiotic relationship between clownfish and an anemone is one of the most amazing parts of reefkeeping.

I'd aim for a 3-5 inch, clowns can be violent on nems. Also what lighting system do you have? Tank age and size? And what clowns?

Great advice Icedearth!! BTA's are a good choice for most clowns. Proper tank size and lighting along with consistent water changes will go a long way to the anemones health. An occasional feeding of small pieces of squid or shrimp are welcomed also.

I have a RBTA. Have had it for a few months now. It has never really be "bulby". I don't know what the problem is with it. My other to condys have been relatively ok. Just the BTAs for some reason don't like my tank. All my parameters are normal.

My travel is a 75G, its currently cyvling with only a clown in it. My other one is in quarantine. My clowns are an ocellaris and a Picasso

Rule of thumb is have your tank running stable and at least 6 months old. I if you are serious about your water you can have one earlier if not serious than later. Most people experience a cyno outbreak around nine months. In my opinion it's best to wait for this to pass. Clowns host really good in toad stools and to me it is a better choice for a young tank. As refers we need to be responsible and kill the least amount of life we can

My anemone was doing awesome for a month now it looks like.... not so great. Have any of you ever had this happen my tank is been set up for 10 years and the last 10 months I have changed it from just saltwater fish to fish and corals. All of my parameters are stable and I'm using an auto Doser and auto fill water level along with 35% water changes every month.
