Hey everyone,

Just getting back into the hobby. Anyone know what happened to Frank and RCT in Hawaii?

I bought a pair of captive bred angels from him 12+ years ago and then got out of the hobby.

Is he still around breeding angels? Would love another pair from him.

Thanks,

Nick

Welcome back to the hobby.. how long have you been out for?

Hope you get the angels that you are looking for.

Hawaii has had some interesting times in the last couple of years. The state actually had a ban on for a while last year while they evaluated the environmental impact. They have stricter collection methods and no new permits are being issued. Not sure if the seller was affected by this or not but I imagine that some are no longer in the business because of the new limitations.

Hi!

I don't believe Frank is breeding and selling angels any longer. I believe the last update I saw was he was researching the rearing of other species, but not producing or selling them. Unfortunately, I never acquired any fish from him, but he was certainly a true pioneer.

There are a few places that breed and rear different species now, including Poma Labs, Biota, and maybe Bali Aquaculture. There is also a stateside retailer of captive bred flame angels from Hawaii.

Welcome back to the hobby!

I don't know which angels you're looking for, but I was looking for a captive bred flame angel a few months back. I asked Chad Vossen if he was still breeding any and he said no, but pointed me to colchesterpet

I emailed them and the owner I believe responded, she was really cool. If they don't have what you want, she may be able to point you in the right direction.

I asked Bob Fenner at WWM a question about my captive bred angels back in 2017 and he mentioned he was heading to Hawaii to discuss re-starting breeding of stock angel species and hybrids ala Frank Baensch. Might be worth asking over at WWM.

Availablity of CB stock has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. I have 2 flames, a coral beauty, majestic and Chinese blueline and if I had the space had the option to buy a Cortez, multibar, scribbled or goldflake recently too. I am in the UK and we don't have nearly as many avenues for CB stock as the USA so hopefully you can find what you are looking for.

Thanks everyone. I had a pair of resplenden’s from Frank back in the day. Was hoping he was still breeding.

Saw what POMA labs is doing and have been in touch with them.

Resplendents..........wow! We can only hope that one day...............!

Yeah had a pair [emoji24]. They were small like 1 1/2” maybe. Had them growing out in my drag system. Regret selling everything I had, joculator, Black tang, interruptus, blue line, wild bandit and more...

Trying to reacquire some of them.

A few pics of my old fish...

Should clarify, I had the resplendent hybrids from Frank (resplenden x fisheri) I believe if I remember correctly....
