Every since I was 14 I was fascinated with the salt-water aquarium hobby and before I knew it, it became a passion of mine to be able to keep this mini eco-system in my own house. Going from a 10 gallon to a 37 to two 75 gallons and now a 110 trough(being 21 years old now) for coral prop I am ready to restart all over again and go with one dream tank. I am looking into get a 100+ gallon tank or a large cube tank and go into sps/lps tank. I will be trying to get into LED lighting even though MH has been in my strong hold. I have come across many bumps in the road in this hobby, corals dying, fish dying, and buying bad fish/coral from not so great LFS thinking I can heal them. Sad to say I am not a god. I have learned one thing and that is to always think about stuff over and over again to make sure this is the path to go down. Now that being said any help is appreciated here while this tank( which can take years for me to make about) is being built. I do have some questions, if I am getting into a SPS tank what would be my best bet for a flow(mp or tunze or koralia) and what size tank to manage good flow, lighting which would be best MH or LED and what about nutrient load and fish load(I hear to many mixed things on that subject). Now I will be keeping my 40b custom sump along with my tunze skimmer which is rated for about 350g or so. I will be getting new rock and getting rid of the old and using the refugium as a DSB and lot of macro algaes and mangroves to fill with pods and other goodies to help support my tank. I would love to have a huge full mature tank loaded with corals some day along with fish. I am also looking to go into gfo/biopellets in the system maybe an algae scrubber?(Any thoughts on these)and a DSB in the main display. Will be doing a HOB overflow with a 700gph return( maybe upgrade both for more water turn over).And what the heck to do about supplementation(CA, Alk, Mag etc) Again any help and thought and input will be more than welcome thanks!
