I have a powerhead that i used in a qt tank. I used copper in that tank. The powerhead has been sitting out of the tank for 7-8 months dry. If i soaked it iN vinegar and scrubbed it real good. Can i use it in my reef tank. Its not a necessity but i could really use it. Any one that has done this and haexperience please let me know how things went for you.

copper does bind onto ca, but not glass or silicon or plastic. those are all myths. In fact I have a qt that contains some live rock that was once used in full copper conditions although I do not use copper in that tank anymore. This qt is not only used as observation and prazi treatments, but houses some coral including a frogspawn. No issues.

Are you saying it binds to calcium.

As in live rock and crushed coral and sand, yes. Thats why they say not to use live rock, sand, etc in a QT where you will treat with copper. If your implying as to dissolved Ca in your water, probably not but I'm no chemist.
