I'm going to be ordering the brs dual reactor for gfo and carbon. Can I also mix biopellets in with either of the two media in the same reactor? I would like to also run biopellets without adding a third reactor

Ahh. Is there any other way to use biopellets without using a reactor? I'm trying to keep the equipment small if possible. The carbon and gfo are already too big to go under the Stand so they will be going next to it on the wall.

****. I may do gfo and biopellets. Won't carbon take plankton and filter feeding foods out of the water as it makes it clearer?

Well I want carbon for water clarity and gfo because I've been having an issue with phosphates recently. And I occasionally have a nitrate problem which is why I want the biopellets as well

Gotcha. Well here's what I'd do since you're tight on space. If u have a sump. Put a bag of carbon in the sump in a high flow area and put GFO in 1 chamber and bio pellets in 2nd chamber

I have a wet/dry sump. The highest flow area in there would probably be where the skimmer return dumps out. I would like to convert to a fuge but I can't take this sump out without taking the tank off the stand. And that's not happening unless I move it. I'm going to try the bag of carbon. I'm more concerned with nitrates and phosphates than crystal clear water. I can live with that as long as my parameters stay in check

This won't work because the pellets need a higher flow rate than gfo as previously stated. Also I doubt the brs reactor will be very good at tumbling pellets without modifications.

If you "occasionally" have nitrate why not liquid dose carbon with vodka or vinegar?

I haven't had a nitrate issue until recently. I don't know much about dosing vodka and from what I've read pellets seem to eradicate most people's nitrate problems. That is why I'm leaning towards a pellet reactor

Neither one is just set and forget. Liquid dosing would be something you have to do every day. With pellets you will have to find out the correct dose by following the directions. And they will have to be replenished from time to time.

The best fix for your nitrate is to find what's causing it and stopping it at the source.

What are your nitrates currently testing at? Also can you give me a rundown of your system and maintenance?

the tank is a 57 gallon deep blue edge rimless with a wet/dry sump. mainly lps and zoas. not sure the weight of the rock in it. im going to get my water tested this weekend sometime so i have accurate levels to post. i do weekly 10 gallon water changes which do stretch to every other week once in a while if i have a busy weekend and cant make it to the lfs to get water. i currently dont dose anything.

i know neither dosing or reactors are totally set it and forget it, that probably wasnt the right wording to use, but i would rather change media every week or every other when i do water changes instead of dosing daily.

will adding a hang on fuge to my wet/dry help at all? i would remove the wet/dry completely and add a sump with a fuge built in but in order to get the wet/dry out i have to take the tank off the stand. I was looking on brs and one of the hang on fuge's they had looks like it will fit under the stand.
