I have a GFO/Carbon reactor. I'm goi g to use the Red Sea Foundation A B C. Do I still need me reactor or should I stop using it? From what I'm reading the Foundation C will accomplish what the reactor is doing, am I correct or misunderstanding something? Thanks.

Do you have NO3 buildup, PO4 buildup or both? Do you have excessive algae growth? (Some is good.) If you can post your most recent complete set of test results, we can probably help figure this out with you. :)

If I'm looking at the right thing, Foundation Elements is a "two part" program for maintaining alkalinity, calcium and magnesium....mostly unrelated to activated carbon or GFO.

I'm sorry. I've been researching the Red Sea programs. I meant to ask about the algae management program from Red Sea. Would that perform the same as a GFO/carbon reactor?

Same idea in terms of promoting bacteria to consume N (and maybe P) – same bacteria, same mechanisms. Yes. :)

But the implementation being drastically different is not just coincidence or without value.

Keeping the C source confined (as a reactor does) ought to be better for the tank overall as long as the reactor IS NOT USED IN TYPICAL C-SOURCE FASHION to drive nutrient levels into oblivion.

Rregardless of the C saource you pick, I don't think new tanks should be carbon-dosed at all.
