Reactors - flow via suction vs pushing of water

As I dream and plan for the eventual tank upgrade, I am thinking about plumbing and specifically hooking up reactors for use in my sump.

In order to limit the amount positive pressurized tubing, fittings, and equipment waiting to leak - I got to thinking about using a reactor via suction as opposed the the typical pump blowing water into the reactor. Obviously this means a second pump.

Does anybody do this? What pitfalls am I missing?

My guess is it’s not going to work or work very well. The fittings would have to be air tight to draw a good vacuum to begin with. Plus your trying to pull water through what ever is in the reactor which is going to take a stronger vacuum.
