Reactors getting clogged, need ideas please!

Guys, the foam insert in my reactors gets clogged pretty quickly, 2 weeks or so, just find detritus type. The flow then gets chocked and I have to remove and wash the foam, put it back, etc. Pain and extra maintenance. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have 3 reactors, running: 1) biopellets; 2) carbon and gfo mix; 3) miracle mud. I have removed both foam guards on the reactor running biopellets, since they are big, but gfo/carbon and miracle mud continue to be a problem. Here is a pic. Many thanks.

Are you running filter socks?

Is this running off of a manifold or separate pump?


Fwiw , the miracle mud is just silica sand and the lighter soils it contains have likey gone in the tank. It might be what’s clogging the sponges.

Used to. Running Klir Di-4 now.

A sponge cover on the return pump or find thinner sponges for the reactor is all I can think of.

Thanks, good idea. Will shop for more porous sponge inserts.
