Well, I pulled as much of the algae out of the tank by hand as I could. I have the protein skimmer rigged up and running, along with the Phosban with GFO. I covered the tank up this morning for 3 days of darkness to hope to kill the algae off. With the skimmer and GFO running, hopefully that will be enough to keep the phosphates in check, so that when I uncover the tank and the algae is dead, it woulnt grow back.

I uncovered the tank today and almost all of the algae is gone! There are small amounts, compared to what there was. Im assuming if I fixed the phosphates problem, the little bit of algae left will die off on its own? I got a new battery in my phosphate hanna checker and it read 0.02ppm. .02ppm is good right?

72 hrs lights out is a good method for trying to get a grip on algae issues. There are some reefers that actually incorporate it into their maintenance schedule every 4-5 months or so. Keep at it :)
