Hi all,
Not sure which is a better solution so I am looking for some guidance/advice.
I have an AquaGadget mini reactor and desktop reactor. Initially I tried running carbon and GFO in the mini but I couldn’t quite get it to work properly- GFO wasn’t rumbling enough and plugged it up. So I took the GFO and have been running carbon only for a few weeks.
I can either run just carbon in the mini and add GFO to the desktop reactor or put the GFO in a bag and move the desktop reactor to my other tank?
I have 2 AIO tanks : 45 gal and 20 gal. The 45 had been running about 8 months and the 20 about 6 months. I was battling some algae in the 45 but that has gotten much better. Cyano battle ongoing for the 20 gallon but manageable so far.
I have some zoas, hammer and frogspawn in the 45 and just zoas in the 20.
I just don’t know what is more beneficial/important for the tanks. I used to have a bag of carbon in both but never felt it did anything for either tank that way.

What I do is run media in bags in the reactors. While not the most effective use of media it works for me. I hate the mess of changing out media.

So do you put them in their own bag and then together in the reactor? Are they both tumbling then?

They are in old mesh filter sock bags. I cut the ring off and fill them part way. Then rubberband the end. This allows for some water to pass thru. I run 4 reactors. 1 big for Carbon-1 bag. 1 big for GFO-1 bag. 1 smaller unit that I have both in ,1 bag each. This one gets changed more often. 1 calcium reactor, but thats not part of this discussion
