So my new 17 gallon is up and running and everything seems pretty happy. I'd like to get fish QT'ing while the new tank continues to build stability. I have the day off tomorrow so I'd love to get things setup and going.

My plan is to add newly mixed water, heater, powerhead, and aquaclear 20 + carbon and biomax pellets to the 5.5 gallon. How long after I set it up can I add the fish that I want to QT to the tank? Anything missing from my QT setup?

Live stock in the tank:
Tiger Pistol Shrimp
1 RBTA
1 SPS and 1 Zoa frag

CUC:
4 Turbo snails
10 dwarf cerith snails
1 florida cerith snail

Also, I think my CUC is a bit light for 17 gallons, what do you think?

I would pour a little "bacteria in a bottle" (exs. Bio-Spira, Seachem Stability, Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria) over the biomax pellets to help seed them.

So, I've actually got a smaller bag of bio pellets in my display tank's filter that I could transfer. Would that be just as good?

Potentially yes. You might do both! :)

Cool, thanks guys. I set up the QT tank using 5 gallons of water from my display tank and moved over some of the bio pellets. I picked up two snowflake clownfish and they seem to be really happy. They ate 15 minutes after I put them in and then 3 hours after I put them in, I checked the parameters and ammonia and nitrites were 0. I was going to add some bio-spira but it was expired. I guess I am to just observe them and make sure nothing looks out of ordinary right? How often should I feed these two guys?

I would feed just once a day to minimize potential ammonia issues. Clownfish are not a high metabolism species. They are more like couch potatoes. ;)

Haha alright great! I fed them this morning, they're looking good. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. I will check parameters again tonight after work.
