hay all I'm new to the sight and I started with a 10 gal salt and clown and that lasted only a few weeks lol I up graded to a tall 45gal and I have a hang on the back system and a hang on the back Refugeium and I want to know if any have thoughts on a sump or a skimmer what's the pros and cons please help

If you're happy with the 45G then invest in a HOB protein skimmer. They are a very useful means of filtration and they oxygenate the water which is great for gas exchange and keeping a steady PH. I ran a 46 bow front for a long time with a canister, HOB protein skimmer, and a small BRS reactor with awesome success. Unless you can drill this tank, meaning it has non tempered glass, i wouldn't invest in a siphon based over flow for a sump, but thats just my opinion. You can accomplish the same things without a sump, especially since you already have a HOB refugium. For HOB skimmers I suggest a Reef Octopus Classic, they're bullet proof and pull all kinds of skimmate from the water column. Hope this helps, and welcome! :D

Awesome I will look into it I have a spare 10 gal and it's easy to throw a few baffled pieces of acrylic and up it Gos I just worry that if my power goes out my living room gets flooded I hear great things but I have hang on back stuff now and it all works great if it is not broke don't fix it x right? Well thanks and I will check into that

Not Advice, Just my .2. I am also deathly afraid of water overflowing on my sensitive hardwood floors. So if you get an HOB protein skimmer it is more than likely that at some point in time it will overflow. I am considering an in tank skimmer. Hydor Slim Skim specifically.

Welcome to the R2R community!
A lot of chosen equipment is trial and error.
I ran a nac5e skimmer till it overflowed on me too many times
In time you will build the perfect setup of your liking :)

You checked out my blog? Thanks for looking! I have the same problem with nems in my tank at home. Funny enough, I haven't had any issues with nems in my tank at the LFS (show tank). I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Those asternia stars will multiply like crazy. They are mostly ok, though I've heard and seen that the brown ones can eat zoas. Those little anemones look like either ball anemones or majanos. Both of which can multiply, though the majanos are worse IMO. Might need some more help in identifying the hitchhiker nems. [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Whats up brotha! The pseudocorynactis are fine, there the ones with the ball tips. There just really sticky! Also the first pic is an aiptasia and they suck! Theres a bunch of different ways to get rid of them and if you plan to jam pack the tank with corals, i would look into getting rid of it. The little snails are fine, i have hundreds if not thousands cruzin around my tank. Asterinas are good and bad depending on an ID, i would ditch them if you get the chance.
