Ready to pull my mangrove

I have 6 small red mangrove in my refugium( each has 8 leaves). They are right next to a window so get at least 6-7 hours of sunlight a day. The roots are in a shaded area just get a little dim refugium light, but they're not in the substrates.
My observation is: they grow very slowly especially in Winter( no growth in 5 months) and the roots
are covered with algae. At this rate I can hardly count on them to soak up nutrients.
What do you think?

Mangroves are known for their slow nutrient uptake. Most use them as a showpiece in display refugiums. While they're not taking up a lot of nutrients, they're taking up some.

Thank you buddie! I'll prob introduce a dwaft angel to see if he'll pick off the algae on the roots and see what happens.
