I understand completely. Dead fish means replacing fish, more work, and more money. Not to mention that I feel bad when fish I am caring for pass.
I will share my experience. Fortunately for me, I found these fish disease forums before I purchased my first tank. I studied them in depth prior to even buying my system. Once I understood the life cycle of the common fish diseases I came up with a plan that wasn't completely "by the book" but it was close.
Doing QT properly from the very beginning was a huge advantage. I added my CuC around 45 days prior to introducing my first fish. Every fish I purchased went through copper and prazi. I did lose some fish in QT, some for unknown reasons and some from my mistakes. The reward for that work is that I have purchased 13 fish that made it into my DT. These include a Hippo and Yellow Tang which are known to be very disease susceptible. Of the original 13 I have only lost my royal gramma. I think I may have killed or trapped it while moving rocks around.

That said, I am now very protective of everything that goes into my tank. I don't worry about losing fish and that has made the hobby fun.
Stick with it. QT everything. Be protective of what makes it into your tank. Not everything will make it since wholesalers and many retailers are becoming experts at passing sick fish through before they show symptoms. At least you will know that once they are in your DT, the stress is over.
Now if only I were better with coral....
