Allow me to preface this by saying I don’t come on the forum very often. Perhaps once every 4-5 days, may go weeks without .

When you see post and replies by the same usernames, almost in every thread, and and you see they were last online within the last hour, without fail, what purpose or enjoyment is obtained through that.

Do people find bliss in offering their 2 cents around the clock? Mostly about non factual things, just past experiences or opinions whether or not they like something.

Any public forum is like a cocktail party. You have to mingle around and decide what conversations you want to overhear, which ones you want to participate in, and how many are total BS. Careful listening and intelligent discretion often turns up the most useful informational tidbits imaginable.
Or you can leave the party and just go home.

Lol it seems you are judging people for using a forum to communicate and share their thoughts/experience/knowledge/BS. Seems to me that is the point. I dont judge those who are here just to lurk, but am thankful for those who are here and active.

Heck if this was full of people who only logged on and posted once a month they would have to change the name to reefcentral.

I log on frequently to see if there's someone posting EMERGENCY on a fish species I'm familiar with, or maybe a UV or RO question I can help them answer. If there's nothing urgent, I will often dive into a bucket of BS being stirred and paddle about before disappearing.
Heck, it's 02:00 in my time zone and I just finished adjusting flow on a new sump. I need SOMETHING to make me sleepy!!!

I get up at 3am for work. I get home from work around 4pm.

R2R is my morning reading, and my nighttime reading before bed.

OP is trying to understand why some of us are here 24/7, yet they are probably on facebook, insta, twitter, snapchat, etc for hours on end. Social media, same reason most of us are here. To be social with other like minded people, and to absorb as much information as possible to make my own tank better.

Probably on those platforms was a good assumption but incorrect. Don’t have any of those other than Facebook, and it’s been so long I can’t recall my password .

And this wasn’t geared to the people always on here, more so the people who somehow always have something to say about any given topic. Kinda like the people in a conversation who have to butt in and be heard, but in reality have nothing of use to say. Feels like they just “need” to be heard and make people aware they are there.

There are literally people who will post and say in regards to a topic, “maybe that can be done but I don’t have any experience with it”

I suppose I was never that kind who voluntarily say in the front of the class room constantly waving their hand in the air to be called on. Nor the type that had to tell 10,000 people about the bass I snagged 4 years ago.

I believe it’s deeper than some realize.
Especially when you see the fan clubs of a particular brand and anything that strays in its lane is quickly ran out. I’ll take a shot, not enough people around a particular hobbyist care to acknowledge, yet alone gloat over their “investment” and some feel the need to head over to the choir in order to feel justified in their $500 frag.

we are able to 100% influence reefing procedure by offering predictions then getting follow up on outcomes. I stay busy for twenty years, now nobody rips you off regarding pico reefs, skip cycles, sandbed removals etc.

in 2001, how common were pico reefs, skip cycles and sandbed removals?

and thread work did all of it, lightly posting on forum can't influence change.

why would someone want change? because there are better ways to reef, and retain more animals.

My concern isn't for my own reef, it runs itself just fine. My concern is working solely in other peoples tanks and getting them the outcome they want, remotely.

developing links off that kind of work can help people who are in trouble get unstuck, very fast.

I post a lot....mostly comedy.... this is my only form of social media.

Wife caught me chatting with a HS gf (catching up on each other's lives) about 10yrs ago.

After that night, my wife banned me from any social media that brings past relationships into my keyboard fingertips.

I have to respect my wife's hotbuttons.

I get it. Facebook has caused million of divorces that started out as innocent chatting.

So R2R is my only social presence

I've been known to drop some shock posts just to get a laugh. I think I've been temporarily banned twice.

I have to watch myself bc I am heavily opinionated....or trying to be a comedian that gets me in trouble with Rev and Daniel.

I completely understand that. Group buys, networking, second hand buying are all good things.

I just don’t understand the ones who have to offer something in every thread even tho they themselves have nothing to offer. If someone created a thread about a shark , ray tank I’d have nothing to add and would not post. Others can’t refrain and feel as if it’s like musical chairs every needs to find a place in it.

I am just naturally someone who likes to offer help when I can. Like actively. Though I think it comes predominantly from selfishness. If people ask a question and I realize I can help, I would think that if I don't help and they screw up later on, I'd feel guilty. So to appease my own sense of guilt, I'd hop in and offer my opinion or guidance.

I do try to tailor my answers to the actual questions asked though. I don't hop onto the different threads and write the same thing over and over again like some people do, sometimes not even being relevant to the question at hand. And of course, try not to push my opinion too much because at the end of the day, to each their own.

I think two of the biggest examples in my case, would be canister filters and fish-in cycling. If someone asks about options, I'd always try to steer them away from canister filters and push for fishless cycling. But if they already decided on using canister filters or fish-in cycling, that's fine, I try to help out however I could with setting that up.

Also, I only answer questions I know the answer to or have something material that I can contribute. There are a lot of threads that I am completely absent from.

Hopefully that makes more of a difference and sense to the people asking the questions lol, and that I am not like others who just spew the same thing over and over again without regard to the actual question asked or the threadstarter's personal preferences or situations. But hey, I do also make mistakes and misread/miss some details sometimes. Though hopefully generally I am pretty good lol, but hey I don't actually know. No one has told me if I am just like all those who offer nonsensical or irrelevant opinions, so I hope I don't fall within that category. XD
