I am having a really hard time getting this red algae to stop growing everywhere. I have been doing water changes to try and help. I just reduced my lights daily. I even added carbon to help.

Any other ideas that can help me without adding chemicals to my tank? I have a clam that I was told not to add chemicals cuz it will affect him.

Please any help would be awesome.

thank you

The live aquaria is a decent article but it focuses solely on high NO3 & PO4. In this thread, among other things, they mention the situation of absence of NO3 with PO4 present. So it's very important, using reliable test kits (not API) to know the level of NO3 and PO4 before embarking on a cyano strategy.

Cyano is ever present and no one really knows for sure what causes it it to precipitate out of the water column and form mats. We do know there is a correlation with high NO3 and PO4 and with low to no NO3 with PO4 around.
