Really big Citrus Goby?

I just got a new citron goby, been reading online that it gets to 5cm (2 inches) in length. But the one i got is about 6,2 cm (2,5 inches). He's roughly the size of my bristletooth tang, the bicolor blenny got ticked when he saw it at first, changed his color to completely stripped, but didn't dare to do antything haha

Is there a chance it's another species or is it just very old?

I also have a yellow clown goby that is much much smaller, like 1 or 2 cm in length

It’s hard to tell under so much blue lighting but it looks to be a true Gobiodon citrinis.

Citron Clown Gobies can get large. Much larger than the little yellow and black clown gobies. And they can be tough on your corals if you only have frags, big colonies for those babies are probably preferred. They are very cool fish though. Your Citron is beautiful.

They definitely can. Anything outside of Gobiodon okinawae can be hard on frags if they take an extreme liking to it. Why do you think I now have a frag in my blennies territory haha.

Here is hoping nothing bad happens to my frags haha, so far he's already eating flakes and i got it yesterday!

Gobiodon should eat quite fast, usually if they don’t it’s due to them being a rarer species such as:
Gobiodon acicularis
Gobiodon quinquestrigatus
Gobiodon howsoni

I have an okinawae that i had no luck feeding flakes and has no interest in live food or liquid. He is still alive so i figure he might be eating some coral. In fact saw him nipping at an sps but i thought he was eating pods :/

They don’t eat coral but instead nest under the branches of the coral which can irritate them and cause skin loss.

Saw, I put a citron in my tank after seeing it at my LFS and immediately becoming intrigued. The LFS said it was reef safe. Regrettably, I didn't google the fish. I have an SPS tank and I'm fairly certain he's the culprit for trashing a number of SPS colonies. I have two that are rapidly losing skin and I've seen him buzzing by and taking what appear to be bites on those colonies. Chicken or the egg... Maybe something else was wrong and he's just picking at them now, but they were fine before adding him and I've literally seen him cruise by and nibble on them.

I'e never seen him eat the tiny pellets or frozen food I add daily.

How do I get him out now??? It's a reasonably large tank with a scape that can't be moved. and coral all over the place. He's small, fast, and skittish.

I do have a fish trap... Is there any known food they can't resist?

Worst case scenario, and as a last resort, does he have a mortal enemy that is reef safe?

Did you try at night? Or at night while shining a strong light at it? (it kinda stuns them)

Not yet....

The tank is in my office and I'm generally not here after 7pm.

Not a bad idea though. I may have to set an alarm to come by there at 2am on a weekend and see if I can catch him.

I took a whack at that last night. Maybe it wasn't late enough where he had hit a deep slumber.

Found in the big green slimer colony resting on a branch after the lights had been out for an hour. Blasted him with a flashlight, looked at me, swam off and disappeared into the rock work and couldn't find him after that.

Grrrrr.

Is there any food that these gobies go crazy for? Something they can't resist? Besides my SPS coral colonies LoL I need to find a way to trap him.

This little guy is wreaking havoc in my tank....

I tried a slurp gun but it was messy and I really couldn't get close enough. The fish is very skittish. Just walking near the tank he often dives into the rockwork.

I'm half tempted to let a lion fish go in my tank, but I have so many small reef fish I've had for years and years, I just can't do it. Murphy's law, the lion fish would eat everything but this dumb goby!
