I have had a really hard time figuring out what this is. At first I thought maybe it was diatoms but as far as I know they are not hairy. There are no air bubbles which makes me hopeful that this is just some kind of hair algae that is brownish. The tank has been up for just about 2 months at this point and has had essentially 0 ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates except for a tiny amount I saw during the first week up. these are the best photos I can get unfortunately.

edit: first two pictures and last two pictures were taken with different cameras which is why the rocks look more orange in the first two.

Tried to look at it under microscope but the only one I have is a 15 year old kids microscope which has specs all over when you look through it with no slide. Nothing is moving

Diatoms are silica-based which I would expect from most new tanks. If it fluffs like a powder in the water than diatoms would be the best guess.
What you are seeing should pass over time as long as there is not an abundance of silica.
Dinos will have a much nastier defined look.

I thought that diatoms would be a dusty covering not hairy? I had tiny bit of diatoms at around the 2 week mark but it was gone in 2 days.

There are many forms of diatoms. Mainly segmented. When thick enough they will cover like dinos. Dinos are active "teardrops" under the scope.
