Hey I could really use some advice on how to handle this cyano problem that I’m having.
29 gallon standard aquarium around 23 gallons total water volume. I have been doing 4 gallon weekly water changes, turkey basting rocks every few days, siphon the sand weekly with water changes and nothing seems to be working. Tank doesn’t have a sump just some hang on back equipment ( skimmer&fuge).
Tank stocking is 2 clownfish, 1 six line wrasse, 1 falco Hawkfish and a cleaner shrimp with some Lps and softies.
Phosphate and nitrate all seem to be in check. Any advice would be really appreciated.

What are numbers and what test kits are you using? What devices are you using to move water - not enough flow can also be a contributing factor.

Corals look good btw.

Remove as much as possible and keep flow up.

A 1ml per gallon dose of 3% H2O2 just after lights out followed by an addition of say 10ml bottled bacteria like Fritzyme9 or AquaVitro seed about and hour later and then repeat every twelve hours. Continue this regiment for 3-4 days and you should notice a reduction. Continue this for two weeks.
It’s Ok to deliver these doses through your sump return.
Add slowly for maximum dilution.

Turn lights way down, blues to 10%, whites

Stop coral feedings, run some chemi-pure elite, turn off UV, but keep carbon dosing (if applicable)

Half the frequency of your water change.

Check to make sure your Nitrate is say 1-2ppm and Phosphate is 0.03-.12ppm

Iam at day 5 using the above and my sand is now white.

Thanks for the quick reply’s.
nitrate - 2ppm salifert
Phosphate .03- .04 Hanna low range.
I have a jebao ow-10 wavewaker 132-1057 gph on full blast, koralia nano 425 gph and 595 gph return from my canister filter so about 2000 gph. Lighting is a sb reef light black box at 50% blues 20% whites. Blues on from 1pm-930pm whites on from 230pm- 8pm. I have only been feeding a few pellets every 2-3 days.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things; considered using something like ChemiClean?

Yeah I have been thinking about it but I keeping reading threads that people say not to use it on a newer system. Tank was set up in June of last year so only about 8months old.

The H202 destroys the Cyano cells, the bacteria addition helps to increase the good guys.
The lowering of foods (other than fish food) and the lowering of light lowers its ability to grow.
As the good guys build, they start to out compete this photosynthetic bacteria.
Your numbers look good to me.

How long can I keep my lights down that low for at 10-20% few days? Weeks?

One more question, should I be turning off the skimmer when adding the h2o2 and beneficial bacteria?
