I'm taking care of my daughters tank while she is away (Army National Guard) and have some questions.

She has the Tideline Lagoon AIO Aquarium 47G listed here:

This tank has five chambers with the return pump in the center chamber along with the heater.

Rest of the current configuration while facing the front of the tank:
The pump for the Aqua Ultraviolet 15 Watt Advantage 2000+ UV Sterilizer is in the far left chamber. The output for the UV is in the second from left chamber.
The first chamber on the right side is empty and the 2nd from the right currently has a WS-1 In-Sump Protein Skimmer from Aquamaxx installed.
Neither the left or right side chamber currently have the filter socks installed.

Yesterday, I picked up a media bag and some BRS Bulk Bituminous Carbon. I was initially thinking of reinstalling the sock on the right chamber and placing the media bag and carbon in the sock but now I am second guessing myself. Should I place the media right in front of the skimmer or does it need to be after or on the other side of the tank?

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions!

While I don’t have the same setup, my carbon is in one of sump chambers after the skimmer and before the return. As long as water is going through it carbon is fine, better if forced through it.

Hey MCLFLN,
I just purchased the same tank and in the process of putting it together, hope yours is going well. Thank you to you and your daughter for her service.

How is the Aquamax working out for you? Have any advice on the tank that I should know about? I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to be setting up the rear sumps.

Thanks and hope the tank does well!!

I think it is probably your best skimmer option for this tank (open to suggestions from others if there is something better they think would be better).

I am no expert but based on input from my local store - you should not need to install one right away. (we did not)

When you do, you will need to come up with something to raise it to the level the instructions specify for optimal operations.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions on the tank.
