im going to completely redo my aquascape tomorrow as I’m not happy with it and have a lot of dead spots due to rock placement. I’m going to use this as a huge clean up as I have hair algea on my rocks (not loads) and Cyano on my sand. My plan is to remove all the rock into containers containing water from my water display tank (10%) . Scrub down all the rock to rid of the algea. Transfer my fish into a holding tank for the day whilst I rearrange, i suppose it would be less stressful that way instead of having to work around them.
Once all rock is back in I’m going to do another 10% water change to get rid of anything still floating around.
Would it be beneficial to keep the fish in the holding tank for a few days whilst I let the display settle down and be sure there is no spike in ammonia etc? Plus wouldn’t have to feed the display so my nutrients should drop.

Cheers.

All would be fine if transferring the rock back into water quickly after the scrub. Shouldn't have much if any die off.

Fish, depending on how many you have and what size holding tank you plan on keeping them in, depends on the duration you keep them in the temporary tank. Ammonia build up would be a concern. A ammonia badge would be needed if the time in there was more than a couple of hours.

The rocks will be staying wet.
My holding tank is about 20 gallons I think and I have 2 clowns, dotty back, fire tail goby and scooter blenny.

I've had the filter spones in my display sump for a few days and one sponge in holding tank adding bottled bacteria.

The HA will just grow back. It has roots that grow into the rock. Treat the tank with fluconazolE and thank me later.

Google it to order or I just had a vet write me the script and got it at my rx. If I remember it is 200 mg per 20 gallons. Look at the thread on this site to be sure and the particulars of treating with it. It is awsome.

Found a place that sells it. Just to be sure this is what I’m meant to buy right? That’s what’s cam eup when I searched for fluconazole on the site that I was told sells it. Says active ingredient fluconazole

That appears to be fluconazole but not what people are using. In the big thread on fluconazole on this site is listed many times the website for the capsules. If bought from a rx it comes in a pink pill form. Women use it for fungal infections. I will try to copy the link here in a min. I am on my phone so not sure it will work but will give it a try. Or at least I will find the right thread for you.

Go to Payless-petproducts.com. you will find 200 mg capsules.
The thread here is fluconazole x bryopsis.
Lots to read. You can find videos on utube too. Condensed version is as follows.

Get your tank in tip top shape.
Remove carbon
Treat with fluconazole. I THINK it is 200 mg per 20 gallons of water but you need to verify it.
Shaded areas will not die as fast so hit the tank with as much light as you can.
Shut your skimmer off too. Make sure your tank get airation. Start skimming again in about a week.
Gha will start dieing in about a week. Leave it in the tank for up to a month if everything is doing ok.
Do water change, run carbon and decide if you have to retreat.
Took me three treatments to kill all but my tank was infested. Most will die in first treatment.
READ THE THREAD. I AM GOING OFF MEMORY.
Enjoy watcbing it die. Good luck.

Thanks. I’m in Australia so I don’t think they can ship those to here from USA due to custom issues, read that on one American website
I’m going to carry on reading up about it etc before I buy any but thanks a lot for the advice!
I’ve just finished my rearranging, harder than I expected 100% happy with the outcome though and tank is all settled and parameters are fine!

Great looking scape! :)

Easiest way to get Fluconazole is make a Doctors appointment, take your iPad along & show them the thread here R2R & explain what you need it for. We needed over 100 200mg capsules & that was the only way to get them. Chemist had to order them in lol. Worked really well for us.
It is illegal to bring them into Australia as they are a registered antibiotic here. I think some have brought them in but I wouldn't like to be caught :)

I would not disturb the sand if it's possible. You don't want to foul the water with detritus and such from the move. As long as you can keep that to a minimum you should be golden. Fish can go right back in, they may have a hard time in the container your putting them in due to a spike in ammonia(since theres nothing to covert). There should not be a spike in your display.

Cheers, very happy with it now. Apparently you can get it from the vets as well, sister in law works as vetinary nurse so I’m going to see if she can provide the goods
