Hi all. I am just looking for a bit of reassurance that I’m doing this correctly.

I’ve never QT’d or needed to treat a fish before I started this newest build. Lucky I guess?

I’ve read the stickies, I would just like to confirm I’m doing this right, please.

I picked up a trio of scissortail dartfish yesterday. They are eating, active. I started them on food soaked in metro/focus/selcon today. I had intended to complete those 14 days before I started the copper, but....

Tonight I noticed 3 spots on the largest of them that looks suspiciously like ich. I believe that means I needed to start the Copper Power right away. I moved the power head to break the surface, added a bubbler, and dosed to 0.79ppm. I will take to 2.00ppm slowly over the next 5 days or so.

Is this all correct? Am I okay to continue the antibiotics in the food as long as they keep eating?

TIA

Looks like a real nice setup and plan. Do you have a lid on the tank? Might want to turn off the tank light and just use ambient lighting from the room.

That seems like it follows the stickies. Power head may not be needed, that’s a lot of flow.

going slow with CP is great

I do have a lid. It’s tight except where the HOB comes in. I know dartfish are jumpers — any thoughts or best practices on securing that bit?

I did turn the tank lights on to watch them eat. I couldn’t help myself. :) They are back off now. I’ll aspire to control myself.

Thank you!

Filling the gaps with plastic screening is a very good idea. Those "darting" type fish will shoot through the smallest gaps. Best of luck with your new buddies.

Update: They’re doing great. Eating well, active. I do have to turn the lights on for a while morning and night to get them out of hiding to eat.

All visible spots are gone.

Copper is up to 1.61ppm, so tomorrow I’ll get them up over 2.0ppm. Then 14 days, then a fresh clean QT.

Isn’t it funny that they’re in the same formation today as Friday? Not flashy, but I like them. :)

They have been in therapeutic levels of copper (2.20-2.23ppm) since 2/18 and eating food soaked with metro and focus since 2/14. Still active and eating well. They’ve figured out who the food-bringer is.

Yesterday, the largest one developed these lighter spots:

He has a few of them, but he’s awfully hard to get to be still. It’s not raised, doesn’t look like anything on the scales. But, lighter. Thoughts?

Here is a far better photo.

he is supposed to graduate to a new sterile QT tomorrow.

Should I leave him in copper past the 14 days? Add GC to this QT? Dose GC into the new QT?

I can’t tell what these spots are. They’re not raised at all. Just color.
