Reassure me: Red Sea downflow valve

Hi, everyone. I see that there are a lot of threads where people discuss their difficulties adjusting the Red Sea downflow valve, so I’m sorry if this has already been answered. But how many times around should I be able to turn the valve in the “closed” direction before I see the overflow water level change? My water level is holding steady at about three inches below the backup drainpipe and I’ve been turning this valve every five minutes for a couple hours.

This is a new tank, so I would think that the valve wouldn’t be broken. But maybe it’s defective? Or maybe I just need to keep turning?

They get stuck it seems so you'll turn and turn and nothing will change and then bam, lots of change. I usually do half a turn till i get what I want. Then back it off if I overshoot. Its annoying but not impossible to make work

Thanks! I’ll try switching to half turns for a while. I was hoping to move my desk back into my office now that I have the tank filled and the pump going, but I won’t be able to take any meetings in there until I get this noise level down!

I have been turning this darn valve for four and a half hours and my first half-turn after your suggestion had an immediate effect. Thanks again!
