Rebooting due to dinos. How to minimize it from returning?

It's not too bad right now but I'm not too happy with the scape either so I think this will be a good excuse to restart. It's only a 13g nano so not much work needed. I'm going all new dry rocks (cooking since yesterday) and sand. What do I do with the coral frags and snails? The frag plugs have quite a bit of it on them.

I don’t think it’s a good reason for a reboot. You can always change the scape up.

Redoing everting won’t guarantee that it will not return.

I just did the same thing about two months ago.

I got new rock, scrubbed everything, and dipped / scrubbed the corals as best as I could. I dipped the frag plugs in h202 and the corals themselves in revive.

I also added a fish early on to dirty up the water and prevent dinos

Well the rocks are putty'd together and the largest rock is too big to be used any other way. I don't want to break it cause I want to reuse it later on for my 180.

So you only dipped the plugs in h2o2 and not the corals themselves right? Did you have a CUC? How's your restarting going so far?

I finally just tore down my last tank after 3 years of battling dinos. They came and went many times. The tank never thrived. I started a new coral QT with live rock from kp aquatics, dipped what few remaining sps frags i had in h202, and added them to the QT after about 3 weeks of cycling. Two weeks later, the frags are already encrusting

When I start the main tank over it will be with at least 50% live rock. No more all dry rock tanks for me. I do have a mantis shrimp and some bryopsis from the live rock, but I'll take those over dinos any day. So my advice is to restart, especially on a build this small.

I had snails that I just added to the sterile tank immediately and they hibernated until algae appeared.

And yes exactly. Most of my corals were on frag plugs so I held the coral and dipped the plug into the h202 to kill any dinos / spores and then dipped the whole thing (coral included) into revive.

Right now I’m 9 weeks in with no sign of dinos. Having a diatom, Cyano, GHA bloom but obviously that’s very normal in the ugly stage.
