Hey! Just a personal experience I thought I would share.
I had a irritating issue with hair algae and bubble algae in my 40 gallon tank.
I tried snails and crabs but results were slow, so I resorted to something I sometimes see recommended here, which is, get a temporary grazer and rehome.
Said and done, I bought a bicolor Foxface. Big mistake.
He did a great job, stripped my tank of all algae. But he soon outgrew the tank, and took bites off of my solf corals.
Catching him was mess! He blasted thru everything in the whole tank to avoid being caught, and now, one week after rehoming him, the rebound effect.
Hair algae growing back with force. I realise I should have adressed some issues with nutrients before but I took it for granted and got lazy.
I will adress the algae differently this time, maybe getting some type of Urchin and some other more suitable grazers etc.
My advice: Do not get a fish that you have to rehome. Youll get attached to the fish as a pet, if the fish is temporary then the fix it does is too, and its a huge mess trying to remove a big fish from a small tank with caves and crevices.
Before rehoming:
One week after rehoming, algae rebound:
Have a good weekend!
