My son-in-law gave me his trident. Do I have to reset it somehow? Do I need to order the calibration fluid? Or will it reset itself when I plug it back in to my apex? I'm pretty sure all the regents are used up. Haven't taken them out to see. If there are some left, can I use or should I just start with fresh

Do you know if he ran the Trident Shutdown task before giving it to you? If the Trident is offline for more than 72 hours, the Trident Shutdown task should be run to purge all of the tubing so no reagents or sample water is left in the tubing to dry up and clog the lines.

If the reagents are low or empty, it would be best to order new reagents. The Trident only knows when it's time to replace the reagents when you install brand new bottles and it calculates how much is left based on the number of tests it runs. If you're reinstalling used reagent bottles, it will assume they are 100% full and it won't know they've run out until you start getting Test Failed notices.

Okay, so I'll dump what is there. How do I run the shut down task? Is that an option once I plug it in? Do I remove all bottles first?

Do you know how long the Trident has been offline? If it's already been longer than 72 hours, then I don't think the Shutdown task will really help, and you might need to contact Neptune Support for guidance. If it's been less than 72 hours since he last ran a Trident test, then just connect it and go through the Trident Initial Setup task.

Agree with @SuncrestReef on if the shutdown task was used or not. If not, how long was the Trident unplugged beforehand? The salt water and reagents can dry up in the tubing which can cause other issue, thus, the shutdown purging.

The shutdown task will tell you what to do, step by step.

Giving the unknown, @SuncrestReef, do you think it may just be better to send it in for routine maintenance?

It all boils down to how long it's been since the last Trident test. If it was just yesterday, then there's no problem and the Initial Trident Setup task will be fine. But if it's been more than 3 days, then contact Neptune Support to see what they say.

Okay, so it's been at least since xmas eve, and I imagine he had it taken out earlier that week or the week before. So I will find out what to do.
