In a build thread I read yesterday someone who put a screen top on their rimless tank but recessed it using little plastic squares which caught on the edge of the tank, which maintained the flush rimless look.

Could someone please help me find this thread? I would like to contact this person about the exact materials they used.

I've lost too many fish from jumping...

Thank you. Did you use the BRS kit and if so, were you able to custom cut to get the exact fit? What material did you use for the corner-squares? Did you just superglue them on?

I plan on doing this exact same type of screen on my tank, any help on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

The screen and bars were from brs and they were cut to fit around the tank and the overflow. The squares were glued on and are doing just great. I forgot where I got the little squares from will let you know tonight. Also I have the link from rc from where I borrowed the idea from.

How big is your tank?

150g. It's 48x30x24, custom rimless. So it's shallow (24") then front to back it 30".

Thanks for the information, looking forward to hearing what you used for the squares. Can't wait to add this to my system to keep fish from jumping.

The squares are composite shims that are glued into place. They can be cut to size which is nice. The reason I asked for size is originally the screen is one bar that runs the whole length of my tank, 5 feet. That has been proven too long and it bows a decent amount. I ordered the parts to essentially cut it in half and they are on the way. In the mean time we re splined the netting pulling it a bit tighter which has helped a lot to keep the netting out of the water so we migh delay the two screen build be we will see.

Just wanted to bump this thread. It's such a nice solution to cover rimless tanks. Looks awesome. Just build the screen to fit inside the tank and glue on small plastic tabs to keep it in place.

Here is how mine turned out:

How easy is it to feed everyday?

How easy is it to feed everyday?

Depends, most days I just throw spectrum pellets through the screen, so it's just as easy as without the screen. On days I feet frozen, I can just lift up the edge and squirt food into the tank with the turkey baster. On days I spot feed I have to take the top off, which only takes a couple seconds. It's very light weight and easy to move. For that reason I typically just remove the screen whenever I feed frozen.

Awhile back I lost almost my entire fish order due to fish jumping out. Now I have added 13 new fish none of which have been able to jump through the netting :)

For what it's worth, this is the Bulk Reef Supply (BRS) netting kit. While you can find the same kits at the hardware store, you're not going to find the same 1/4" clear netting. I also found that even if you buy the netting from BRS, the spline that comes with the hardware store kits would be too thick. I found this out because I accidentally snapped one of the frames of the BRS kit and had to go out and purchase a new frame from the hardware store. The kits are way cheaper if you buy them there but the spline that came with it was way thicker.

I did the same thing, but i used little acrylic squares sold by TAP Plastics and epoxied them to the corners of the tank.
The smaller the clips/tabs, the better. Regardless though, they break off easy even with some serious epoxy I was using.

I haven't tried using the clips mentioned in the above post though. Not sure if they would fit on my thick glass

Those clips and my overflow/drain are why I didn't recess my screen top. 9.5mm glass.

Really?

Follow the link in my signature. It will take you to the same build here on R2R (Although I have not updated it as much)

Oh that's weird. It's working now... the other day I had to have login privileges.

Great build btw!!
