Was wondering how people are hiding their recirculating external skimmers. Or is everyone just putting it on a table nearby showcasing the unit.
I’m redoing my garage and I am building cabinets around an aquarium with sump underneath the stand. The skimmer is supposed to drain into sump so basically I have to put the skimmer at above sump height. I wouldn’t be able to fit the skimmer under my stand and have to put it either countertop height or in upper cabinets.
TL to explain but imagine kitchen cabinets with a tank instead of a stove. Where do I put this skimmer without leaving it out in the open on top of countertops. Maybe a pantry style cabinet….
Any ideas?
MR2R Beckett style skimmer needs to freely drain to sump…

Can you show us a pic of your setup?

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures at this time because I’m in the planning stage.

Just imagine a sump under tank stand. Where would you put an external skimmer. On some nearby the sump above the water level so it can freely drain into place.

My issue is I want to hide such skimmer and not keep it out in the open for anyone to see. I think it’s an eye sore.
That’s why I was thinking a pantry style cabinet ie. floor to ceiling cabinet. to put it into.
I’m trying to hide all my equipment. For plenty of reasons.
Am wondering who has ideas on how to hide it.

this tank and sump will be sandwiched between lower and upper cabinets such like you’d see in a kitchen….IE push on stove between 2 lowers. Fridge…Trash compactor. Etc.

I could put the skimmer unit in an upper 42” tall cabinet and plumb the inlet and drain to sump. So all I would see is 2 pvc lines going up into the cabinet from lower cabinets.
That’s the best idea I have now.
my limitation is the unit has to be taller than my sump!

Or I put a floor to ceiling cabinet and put the skimmer in there. My issue with this is it’ll take away from the open feel look that open countertop space provides.

Here’s another example I found online. This gentleman put his skimmer in a cabinet next to his tank. The skimmer is elevated taller than his sump to drain into.
this idea for me would be a pantry style cabinet that would take away from the open feel because the tank sits at countertop height enclosing the tank in.
I was thinking elevating it more to an upper cabinet.

I had it outside of stand because of size. I would have to look for a photo.
No problem stud. I got a Mr-2r for my 500g system! I’ve used a downdraft before temporarily because that’s all I had at the time, but I can’t wait to use this one. I am also going to put ozone on it to maximize its potential. I’ve heard great things about that setup.
