im jumping into the big tank game soon. I'm going from a 150 to a 300dd. What pumps are out there for a tank this size ?

I don't have any issues with mine, have not heard of any issues with them from anyone I know.

Whats your total head and what return rate you would like.
External I assume?

Total head will be about 5'. The sp6 will give me about 2k-2300 gph.
I think I need a little more. The vectra looks sweet but I'd be worried about how much pressure I'd lose w the head.

What return rate are you trying to hit? 2300 seems low but some like it that way. Did you figure in the rest of the water volume?

I've also read a few stories about the Marineland 300dd having a seam failing issues. Not sure if they've fixed the issue since, and I don't have any personal experience with em. But that was the first thing that came to mind when I read 300dd.

I agree that 2300 would be too little. I like 10x the display so 3k at 5' head. I might got with two seperste return pumps. One on each side, if I have to.

There was a guy on here not to long ago who's 300dd seam broke . After he said all good stuff about them then that happened . U can probably search it on r2r search bar

Searching now. Can't seem to find it. If you come across it shoot me a link

Just like any manufacture you can't base off one person bad experience. There are 6 people around my area with these 300dd that don't have any issues. I would like to read the post as well, how long was it up and running before seam broke? I love my 300 but the only problem with it is that in order for me to reach the from sand bed I have to use grabbers to reach corals. If you have a SPS dominate tank this is the one because of the depth. Here is a in wall pic.

I'd consider running them internal if you can to minimize risk, increase available footprint under stand, and ease of maintenance. the bldc15 has proven in it's short lifespan on the market, and I've used a few of the other lower flow models, to be reliable, near silent, and great external or internal even under large head pressure like going up from basement sumps to upper level tanks with long runs. no issues yet with over a year on the oldest. much more stout too of a build than the waveline but not apex ready out of the box like the wavelines are now but controllable, DC, quiet, and efficient - worth a look. perhaps a smaller on a manifold feeding reactors and aux and then a bldc15 for the tank return. g'luck!

And I think they will be internal. I currently have my 150 going through the wall into my fish room. I'll be using the 100g stock tank I have now for the 300

Certainly a horror story. But don't you think these things happen w smaller tanks just as much if not more, but people aren't so public about it because they aren't on the forums or they don't think it's as catastrophic as a 300dd???
