Recommend a skimmer for a 120

Just another point to remember, that once set up you will not be dealing with 120 Gal. depending on your amount of Rock and Substrate/Sand you could be looking up to 50% less volume of water, especially if Rock is very dense. Another choice for a skimmer, Reef Octopus Classic 150 Int. it has been around for a long time and only thing they changed was the pump. Not too expensive and parts are easy to get if ever needed, pump is outside of body and unit is a work horse.
Seems like a solid option. My hob RO has been great.

Hello,

When I started my 125 long time ago, everything was used and the best skimmer I have used is the reef dynamics. Now they are kinda loud, and they don’t make them anymore. So you must think I’m out of my mind. However there are ways to quiet them down and the other nice thing is since they are all used they are cheaper. I know my lfs has two or three of
Them and they are set for a max bioload of 500 gallons or more. The nice thing is, if you go up in size or bioload your already good to go.’

They are also one of those set it and forget skimmers and extremely reliable. Yes I have an s300 eshopps now for
My 240 and it’s nice. But in terms of cleaning, it’s a pain, and extremely sensitive and took almost 6 weeks to break in. Now it is much quieter and can handle more than my old reef dynamics, but the foot print is huge. My reef dynamics was tiny and simple to clean.

I’m sure there are zillions of skimmers and newer technologies out there. But bang for dollar and one of thee most well known and reliable skimmers are the die hard reef dynamics. People may say well if it breaks what about parts etc , well it never ever ever broke or anything. As a point of fact I didn’t even clean mine for the first maybe two years.

Now I don’t suggest that but school was kicking my Heiney then. But my eshopps I have to clean maybe every six months or it does affect it. For example some of the reef dynamics my lfs has for sale used are maybe 100 dollars and can handle 220 gallons on a heavy bioload. They could easily handle a 125.

Good luck
Cheers
Sarah

The Nyos is worth every single penny. Nyos + fuge and all set.

Any reef octopus insump would be pretty solid as well
