Recommend me some media reactors

I'll have to keep an eye on this. How far in are you putting the sensor tube for the shutoff? Mine is about half way in.

Mine has filled twice so far (only had it installed a week or two) and the shutoff worked perfectly. Zero spills.
Well, I guess I shouldn't have posted that here. I don't want to derail the thread, but I will answer your question. I have the sensor as far as it will go into the compression fitting. I will also say that I have a friend that has the same collector and his does the same thing. So, keep an eye on it. Maybe me and my friend got the only two bad ones. Not likely though.

Last question then, Which sensor are you using? I'm using the Apex one - I wonder if the normal one is faulty or if its a container issue.

Yes, I'm using the RO media reactor. It's pretty good. The opening is a bit small though, but I keep my media bagged, and I don't use a lot, so it is easy for me to get in and out. I just saw an Innovative Marine reactor today though, and the big one is very nice! It has an internal chamber that you lift out. No mess in the aquarium, and no removing the reactor. I think it's a great design.
Do you use the GFO in the media bag? I would love to do it that way! It would be much easier to take out all the gfo and put it back in if it were in a media bag. Just wonder how efficient it would be in the bag though.

Using the pressure switch that came with the waste collector. I will eventually also use an APEX leak detector, once I build a breakout box.

I use Next Reef reactors. The screws aren't that big of a deal. They are very well made and don't leak.

The only thing I have from Avast is one of their waste collectors. I am not too impressed with it. The top only has two wing nuts and an o-ring to keep all that gunk in the container. When you tighten the nuts, the top bows so badly, even with minimal torque on the nuts, that it leaves a visible gap. The pressure switch also does not always work, so I have already had overflows in my stand because it won't reliably turn off the skimmer when it is supposed to. Since this is so poorly designed, I doubt I will order anything else from them. Not replying to me when I made them aware of my problem did not help.

Garry,

Have you spoken to Avast about the issues you're having?

I'll bet they would work with you to address the issues.

I contacted them through their web site and nary a peep out of them. They won't have to worry about me anymore.

I only have a few Avast products but the pressure switch is very good. It reliably shuts down my skimmer when it gets full. Much better than when it used to overflow. Their pressure switch is better than all the other level detection devices that I looked at when dealing with skimmate.

They are super responsive. If you didn't get a response for some reason I suggest calling them.
