Recommendations and thoughts-New tank size

I am looking to upgrade to a new tank and would like some feed back on the dimensions, specifically front to back. I am thinking 72x30x24 or 72x24x30, I currently have a old 72x30x18 reef tank with mostly LPS's and tangs. I like my current tanks view from the front but 18 inches is tight for aquascaping. To get it into the room I am pretty sure I am stuck with 72. Do fish prefer height or depth. lol Leaning towards acrylic. Thanks for any feedback.

I have a 30" tank and lighting is not a problem, but reaching to the bottom is a pain and I'm tall, I would go with a 24" width and maybe 20" deep or 22" deep max, my next tank next year will be same dimensions as the brs160 6ft, 2ft 20"

I think they prefer depth over height and I know I would! My tank is 72" x 20" x 18" and I like the height but wish I had a good 6"-12" of depth!

30" is a pain in the butt to clean, my entire side is wet when I am done. I've been watching BRS's 160 tank and it's sweet. Thanks for the feedback becks.

I think the extra depth would also help with a more three dimensional look. Thanks Brew12

Don't get me wrong 30" tanks look good and aquascaping is good because you can create interesting rock formations. All my fish use the whole height, going to shallow can limit swim space particularly if you keep a tang that grows full size. 20" is the shallowest I would go because you need to to take inconsideration sandbed and water level

I completely agree. My tangs don't use the top 8" or so. Only my clowns seem to do that. I would love an extra 4" of height for rockscape and coral. To do it over I would definitely agree that the 72" x 24"x24" would be a great tank size.

I have a 30 inch tall tank. While I absolutely LOVE the way that it looks, it is a pain working with. 30 inches front to back however, makes for a really cool looking tank. Your first choice of 72x30x24 will prob be my next tank for an in-wall build.

You're absolutely right Bluefish9, 30 inches does give the tank a pretty cool look but the working on it part is tuff. The 24" height would help with lighting the corals too. I wanted to put the overflows on the outside of the tank so that's another 6" I would have to consider if I went 30". I guess I could still flip it and still get it through the door. Sounds like I am trying to talk myself into the 72x30x24. Do you have a preference where the overflows are? Thanks for the responses!

I have a 72x24x30 tank and I love the 30 inch height but I am also 6'5" tall with long arms so the height doesn't bother me. My next tank will be at least 30" front to back if not 36". The extra depth would be great. So I would ho with your first option with more depth then height.
